The Storm Smart IMPACT in the Community
At Storm Smart we pride ourselves on being very active in supporting our community. We firmly believe it is not enough to simply be a local business. We strive to be an integral part of the community. Whether it is supporting local school athletics or large-scale initiatives to make our community a better place, Storm Smart is there to stand behind its family, friends, and neighbors.
These are just a few of the examples of how Storm Smart is connected to our local communities.
COVID 19 Pandemic
Seeing the devastation brought during the recent COVID 19 pandemic, Storm Smart felt an overwhelming responsibility to do what we could to help our community, who, like the rest of the world felt the full burden of the Coronavirus.
Beginning in March, Storm Smart management decided to forego our traditional television marketing campaign in mid-March and instead, donate the TV time, filming, editing, and distribution to local municipalities and non-profit organizations in an effort to allow them an avenue to broadcast their messages to the masses.
The effort resulted in nearly ten PSA style television spots which included mayors from Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Bonita Springs, as well as the Lee County Schools Superintendent and leaders of local non-profit organizations.
The PSAs were so well received, Storm Smart extended the airtime of the campaign, donating all of our television advertising spots in April to the initiative.
At the same time, Storm Smart also partnered with Lee Health and began manufacturing N95 masks with materials donated by Lee Health for use in their hospitals. The efforts thus far have resulted in hundreds of masks provided to those serving on the front lines of this pandemic.
Collier-Lee Honor Flight
Since 2017, Storm Smart has been heavily involved with the Collier-Lee Honor Flight, a non-profit organization which flies local World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans to Washington D.C. for a full day of visiting memorials and participating in events to honor their service and sacrifice to our country.
So moved by the organization and its cause, in 2018 Storm Smart created its first self-hosted event, Tee Off for Take Off, a golf tournament held at Coral Oaks Golf Course in Cape Coral. By its second year, Tee Off for Take Off has grown to include over 130 golfers and has become a premier golf event in Southwest Florida. In addition, Storm Smart also holds an annual sales initiative which a portion of each storm protection sale of a particular month is donated to the organization.
In just three short years, Storm Smart has raised nearly $200,000 for this great organization, and continues to do so today.
IMAG History & Science Center
In 2019, Storm Smart partnered with downtown Fort Myers museum IMAG History & Science Center to launch its Science on a Sphere exhibit.
Science on a Sphere is a room sized, global display system which uses computers and video projectors to display planetary data onto a six-foot diameter sphere – like a giant animated globe. The exhibit reveals the mysteries of weather patterns and storms while educating visitors about hurricanes and providing a better understanding of the Earth’s environment.
In addition to Science on a Sphere, Storm Smart Executive Chairman Brian Rist’s foundation, the Rist Family Foundation also partnered with the center for the creation of its Fab Lab. The Fab Lab provides a collaborative space for learning, problem-solving and creating through using off-the- shelf, industrial-grade fabrication and electronics tools operated by open source software and programs. The concept was born out of a college course taught by professor Neil Gershenfeld at M.I.T. and has grown to a worldwide network of over 1,000 labs.
The Fab Lab will offer memberships to area entrepreneurs and small-business owners providing cost-effective prototyping and an environment which supports creative inquiry, collaboration and knowledge creation. Additionally, the lab will provide members of the public access to explore their interests and potentially invent a new product, becoming an entrepreneur in their own right.
The Storm Smart Family
In addition to the number of company driven community initiatives, the over 200 employees at Storm Smart are immersed in the cities and neighborhoods they call home. Whether it’s creating a traveling basketball team for local girls, supporting local high schools or supporting local non-profit organizations, Storm Smart employees pride themselves in being involved members of the communities where they work, live, play, and raise their families.
In addition to donating time and treasure to various community organizations and causes, Storm Smart is proud to sponsor a multitude of events of all types throughout Southwest Florida.
